Learning to Swim

debrafaith

We all have inner floodgates that we keep tightly locked.

Sometimes, just finding the key

and placing it in our hands

is enough for now.

That might be the most we can handle at this time.

Next time, we might be able to place the key in the lock.

And eventually, if we stay,

the time arrives

when we feel safe enough to make the turn,

trusting the flood will not drown us,

instinctively knowing that we have learned how to swim.

"All becoming has needed me.

My looking ripens things

and they come toward me,

to meet and be met."

~ Rainer Maria Rilke
